It's almost Christmas time again :) Everybody is thinking about shopping lists, decorating the house, cooking, friends coming over, gifts and Christmas trees.
As I have spoken, indeed with a lot of you guys, in December I'm expecting some help in raising the necessary funds... As you know I've already made up a small list of would be Santas... So expect a BUZZ, a SMS, a phone call and even a KNOCK on the door !
This year I've joined efforts with one of my best friends Oana, and with Miss YOLI . We've visited 2 locations and without any other words decided that this would be "the one" in great need of some help from Santa's Elfs :)
The place is full of warmth, the women taking care of the children have a very big heart, the kids are sweet and they want to hug you all the time. Most of them are institutionalised and don't get to meet new people very often. What impressed us the most was the very fact that beside all the material things that these children obveiously lack (which we hope to get for them) what they seemed to crave the most was human affection.
They need a lot of things. We've wrote down just a few for the moment, but we promised to come back the following days and get the full list. Stay tuned these days for the whole list. Also we'll post the full list of donators and contribuitors.
Just like last year , once we bought everything we'll upload the list with receipts and names and amounts donated by everybody, as well as photos of the event.
When we asked the director of the center what she'd like for the kids, her eyes lighted up and without hesitation she told us about MUSIC THERAPY . Basically what that means is a few speakers in every room, all of them connected to the PC upstairs. She explained to us how with the right music (classical for example) you and get INCREDIBLE shifts in behaviour.
"The kids are more relaxed. They seem to calm down and be more receptive both to learning & playful activities"
The kids need cloths, a few electrical appliances, some chairs but more importantly special learning games (the psychologist promised to give us a list and come with us when we buy them) Also important, there is a need for school supplies (drawing, coloring, etc) and dippers.
We also want to buy and decorate a Christmas tree.Let me introduce you to some on them:
His name is Johnny. For some reason I know he must be the girl's favorite (Yoli & Oana). Personally, Yoli knows him from a few years back, from another center near The Arch of Triumph, where they donated gifts and sweets. She remembered him instantly. How could she not? He's adorable. He's grown so much :P
Probably the mose severe case, is this little girl who has the mind of a 5 month old baby. She doesn't speak, she just laughs.
The two boys are very cool, sociable, and coherent.
In total there is space for 35 children in the day care center. Right now there a31 of them are occupied.
A list will be completed with the name and picture of every kid, and separate what I mentioned before, the need of the center. Therefore you can choose who you want tu help/support in a very personal manner.
I am honest when I say, I haven't yet been to a center where I feel there is this much need for help and support as this one. Thank you Oana for finding it. We are hoping to raise somewhere around 3000 Euros (3900$).
Please donate as much as you want to. If you feel like you don't want to spare at least 1$ of your money this Christmas for a good cause, then at least tell your friends about it. Thank you!
